Shackletons have been creating luxurious specialist furniture for over 50 years.

We don’t just design and manufacture furniture. We create comfort. We want our customers to be reassured that they are buying the best furniture for the very special people in their care.

As part of an investment to create a lean manufacturing company, Shackletons invested in Computer Aided Design software to create and nest the chair shapes and a Premiumcut automatic cutter from Assyst Bullmer.

The cutter cuts chairs directly from the roll of fabric in the sequence required for manufacture, the cutter cuts all the covers that Shackletons use without needing polythene film or other consumables.

One aspect of Shackletons that impresses visitors is how there is no stock in manufacturing, the chairs progress smoothly from one process straight to the next and on to despatch.

“The dependable accuracy of the cut has allowed us to improve throughput in machining and upholstery by 20%” says Peter Martin, Operations Manager.

“The sewing lines and notches are always clear and correct, making assembly so much easier. In my experience, the Premiumcut has the highest levels of reliability of upholstery cutting machines and thus low running costs”.
